  • SMS Registration will be held on Monday, August 6th. 

    8th graders: 8-9 a.m.

    7th graders: 9-10 a.m.

    6th graders: 10-11:30 a.m.

    Alternate date to register will be Friday, August 10th after 10 a.m until 3:30 p.m. only for those who absolutely cannot make it to the regular registration day on the 7th. We expect everyone to attempt to come to the regular registration if at all possible while we have the staff here.

    State law requires that all 14 1⁄2 to 15 1⁄2 year-olds take a 30-hour driver’s education course and pass a permit test to get their driver’s permit.

    For more information please contact the counseling office at SHS at 522-2944. Credit will not be awarded for this class. We are partnering with DriveSafe Driving Schools to offer driver's ed. This class will not show up on the student's transcript. Once the student completes the online program, they do earn a certificate. If they bring that certificate to the counseling office, we can make a copy and keep that copy on file. The cost of this program is $55.

    Partnerships between the City of Sterling and RE-1 Valley School District:

    • Past 20 years: South Platte Youth Football, ( volleyball clubs, soccer clubs, softball/baseball clubs)
    • With SPYFL alone: 400 youth playing every Saturday; families shopping at Sterling businesses, buying gasoline eating at our restaurants, etc.
    • Youth city league uses facilities of RE-1 Valley as part of our MOU with the City of Sterling. These activities bring out families and help bring business to the town.

    • Adding Agriculture extensions such as Hydroponics and Drone aviation

    • 70.5% of graduates enrolled in postsecondary education

    • 80% of Junior and Seniors enrolled in at least one College Concurrent Enrollment Courses
    • 74% of students participating in two or more co-curricular activities
