Colorado state law at Colo. Rev. Stat. § 1-5-208(1.5) permits the Board of Education (Board) to authorize the Designated Election Official (DEO) by resolution to cancel the election and declare the candidates elected if, at the close of business on September 3, 2019 there are not more candidates than offices to be filled at the election, including candidates filing affidavits of intent to be write-in candidates. The Board approved a resolution on September 3, 2019 providing the DEO with this authorization.
On August 30, 2019, at 4:00 p.m. three candidates met the requirements for election to fill four Director Districts and there are no ballot issues or questions submitted to the voters by the District.
I, Kelly Jo Harlow, the DEO for the RE-1 Valley School District and pursuant to the authority granted by the Board of Education, have determined that the prerequisites for canceling the November 5, 2019, regular school biennial election have been met.
The election is hereby canceled and I declare the following candidates are hereby elected, as of November 5, 2019: Jodene Boerner, District 3; Jill Brownell, District 7; and Jennifer Ogley, District 4. District 6 will be declared vacant at the first Board meeting following Election Day.
