Bullying and Substance Abuse: Who It Affects and Why
Bullying transcends childish acts such as teasing, rough housing or joking around. It can be a dangerous activity with devastating physical and psychological effects. It’s a prominent risk factor for substance abuse and addiction, but the person being bullied isn’t the only one at risk.

Important Information about 13 Reasons Why
As many of you know, the mini-series version of Jay Asher’s book, “Thirteen Reasons Why,” has come out on Netflix. Concerns about the content and how the story addresses suicide have been raised by parents, educators, and advocates. Click on the links for guidance and/or talking points.
Netflix is scheduled to release Season 3 in 2019. Many characters will return and difficult issues will again be explored. Given the possible storylines set up at the end of season 2, it is important for adults to be aware of what the children and youth in their care are watching. This includes monitoring access to content via computers and mobile devices.
