HOMESCHOOL INFORMATION

Due to current state funding resulting in budget cuts and loss of staff at the administrative offices, RE-1 Valley is no longer able to provide reminders for parents who home-school their students.

HOMESCHOOL INFORMATION

Colorado law recognizes that parents have the primary right and obligation to choose the proper education and training for children under their care and supervision. If you are interested in homeschooling your child please visit the Homeschooling in Colorado information page.

Schooling Requirements for Homeschool Instruction:

Instruction must include but is not limited to communication skills of reading, writing, speaking, mathematics, history, civics, literature, science, and regular courses of instruction in the Constitution of the United States. (CRS: 22-33-104.5)

You are responsible for providing your children with curriculum and textbooks (CRS: 22-33-104.5)

Permanent records must be maintained; they must include but are not limited to, attendance data, test or evaluation results, and immunization records. (CRS: 22-33-104.5)

Testing Requirements for Homeschool Students:

Students that are participating in a homeschool program must have academic progress evaluated in grades 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11. To evaluate your student's academic progress, a nationally standardized achievement test can be administered once your student reaches the equivalent ages for grades 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 (CRS: 22-33-104.5). Once testing is completed the results must be submitted to RE-1 Valley School District or an independent school in the state of Colorado. You are welcome to contact the school your child would attend and arrange for testing to be administered. This testing will take place during the school's normal testing window.

Pursuant to Colorado law, parents who wish to begin homeschooling must provide written notification of the establishment of the homeschool program 14 days before beginning the homeschool program to a Colorado school district. The written notification must include the name, age, place of residence, and the number of attendance hours for each child that will be participating in the homeschool program. Written notification must be re-submitted to a Colorado school district each year.

If you choose to Homeschool your student please sign and return these forms 14 days prior to beginning your program:
