Announcing Rooms for our district!
Dear families,
We are continually striving to enhance and streamline communication between you and RE-1 Valley School District. Staying informed about your child’s coursework and staying connected with their teachers directly supports their success both in the classroom and at home. Effective school communication is essential, yet it’s not always as simple or accessible as it should be.
That’s why we’re making improvements. This year, we’ve introduced Rooms, a new feature in our district app that allows for seamless two-way parent-teacher conversations and keeps you informed with classroom announcements.
Throughout the rest of this school year, we may utilize multiple apps as we transition to Rooms as our primary communication platform. Our first goal is to get all parents enrolled in the app, ensuring a smooth experience moving forward. Once enrolled, you will never need to re-enroll. Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, Rooms will be the required communication tool for district updates, classroom messages, and important announcements. While some staff may begin using the app this year, full implementation across all staff will take place next school year. We appreciate your support and patience as we make this transition to improve communication and engagement.
Our district app currently offers:
● Live feed updates
● District and school news
● Upcoming events
● Breakfast and lunch menus
● Push notifications for important and urgent announcements
With Rooms, you’ll have access to even more exciting features like:
● Two-way messaging with teachers, staff, and coaches
● Classroom announcements, reminders about coursework, and materials
● Automatic translation
So what does all of this mean for you? This means that you don’t need another app or tool to keep up with your child’s teachers and coursework. You’ll be able to find the vast majority of school and district information in one place: within our RE-1 Valley School District app. If you don’t already have it, the district app is free, and you can search for it in the Play Store and App Store!
Before Spring Break, we sent out the first round of invitations, which some of you accepted! Today, Wednesday, April 9th, another invitation will go out to families who did not accept this first round. You'll receive an invite to Rooms by email or text. You will continue to receive invites periodically until you accept the invitation. Once you receive the invite, you'll follow the link on your browser to create a login.
After you’ve created your login, you can access Rooms through the RE-1 Valley School District app. Once you’re there, you’ll see a toggle at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen just touch Rooms to get started. If you have multiple children attending our district, you’ll see them all listed in the menu section of Rooms.
We hope this offers you a simpler and ultimately easier communication experience. You can read more about Rooms on our district’s FAQ page here. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions.

RE-1 Valley School District Community Engagement Plan
Re-1 staff is obligated by law to report any type of child neglect we observe at school. Excessive absences can be viewed as a form of educational neglect when the student’s educational progress is being negatively impacted by the lack of attendance. If a student continues to have an excessive amount of absences a DHS report for educational neglect will be made.
Step 1
Any student that has reached a total of 4 unexcused or excused absences in a month will receive a phone check in from the Family Community Coordinator. ( to assist with resources if necessary) If the Family Community Coordinator cannot contact a family after 3 attempts a home visit will occur.
Step 2
Any student that has reached 7 absences excused or unexcused will receive a phone call and a possible check-in meeting will be scheduled with administration. During this meeting the student/parent questionnaires will be completed. If attendance does not improve a community engagement board meeting will be scheduled with parents, students, and community members.
Step 3
Any student that reaches 10 absences (excused or unexcused) a community engagement board meeting will be scheduled and contracts with the student and parent will be signed.
Step 4
Any student that has reached 16 or more absences judicial proceeding may be imitated with approval from superintendent and administrator.
Step 5
Every school will continue to mail attendance letters to parents for 7, 10, 15, days or more of absences. All schools need to send the names of students receiving attendance letters to the Family Community Coordinators.
We will meet weekly with building administrators to discuss any new attendance issues, review and assess current plans in place and touch base with how things are going.
Policy JH
The maximum number of unexcused absences a student may incur before judicial proceedings are initiated to enforce compulsory attendance is 10 days during any calendar year or school year.
